DRA
Dynamic Resolution Adaptation ( or DRA) is an audio encoding specification developed by DigiRise Technology.
DRA is similar to Dolby Digital as it uses MDCT compression algorithm. It has been selected as the Chinese national audio coding standard, and declared suitable for China Multimedia Mobile Broadcasting and DVB-H as addressed in the International Journal of Digital Multimedia Broadcasting. On March 18, 2009, the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), China Hualu Group Co., Ltd. and Guangzhou Guangsheng Digital jointly held a press conference in Beijing, announcing that DRA digital audio technology officially become the "international standard" for Blu-ray Discs and has been written into version 2.3 of the BD-ROM format.
In May 2010, DRA was approved as the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) international standard for audio interface.
According to the Blu-ray specification, it optionally supports DRA and it's extension. In Septemer 2009, the first Blu-ray discs to incorporate DRA are "Mei Lanfang", "The Fox and the Child" and "The Transporter" in September 2009 for the Chinese market, however according to the database at Blu-ray.com, BD titles in China do not often use DRA (or hardly at all, despite being a national standard).
When a BD title is released with DRA audio, it must have at least one of the mandatory audio codecs, Dolby Digital, DTS, or PCM.
