xvYCC or EXtended-gamut YCC) (or by it's copyrighted name x.v.Color) is a color space that extends the range of the standard YCC color space to support a wider gamut of colors.
Specifically, xvYCC can support up to 1.8 times more colors (30,198,988 colors) compared to the standard YCC (16,777,216 colors). This means it includes a broader spectrum of colors, particularly in the red and green ranges, enhancing the overall color richness and depth. It was proposed by Sony and defined by the IEC (IEC 61966-2-4).
Sony introduced xvYCC to standard Blu-ray in 2013 with multiple launch titles under it's "Mastered in 4K" line. They're compatible with standard BD players and TVs that don't support xvYCC and will simply ignore the metadata.
xvYCC requires a xvYCC compatible TV, BD player, BD title, and a HDMI 1.3 cable.
List of BDs that support xvYCC:
NOTE: All of these titles listed are from Sony under the "Mastered in 4K" label and was released in North America and Japan from 2013 to 2016. It is unknown if Sony or other studios continues to support xvYCC or they do support it but never acknowledged it since expanded/deep colors are now supported on modern TVs.
